Here`s Bakersfield California based company Mosrite proving that they too have been drinking the Electric Cool Aid. These guitars were made for the psychedelic Los Angeles band Strawberry Alarm Clock.

The DeVillain Centrefold is a folding electric guitar – the strings roll into the body when it’s folded, and when it is straightened out it’s ready to play. We’ll see about that – guitars tend to lose tuning if the temperature changes.

It was invented by SAS airline pilot Fredrik Johansson sick of damaging normal guitars whilst travelling. The bracket mechanism is made from aircraft grade aluminum, a great idea, although the DeVillain website is currently out of action – whot down somewhere over Korea.

Finally Gibson have made an exact replica of  the hand painted Flying V that Hendrix used on tour in Europe in 1967 and 1968, and features exact reproductions of Hendrix’s own hand-painted designs from the original.

Yesterdays Teye guitar post proved to me that indulgent, exorbitant and outrageously decorous rococco influenced design could look stunning even on a guitar. Personally I feel guitars look overdressed with too much design sauce poured across them so its testament to Teye that their take on 18th Century Gypsy Maverick meets Mayan Voodoo guitar god looks so damn good.

Today though I`m going to take a look at design that`s got just as much art in it but feels more like a pair of family boots – handmade, well worn, exquisitely crafted from quality materials, but earthy, individual and unique in every way. Here they are Spalt Totem Guitars – I `ll take three of each please cause I just can`t dance. Yeah!

If you like the tastes of the White Stripes, and let`s face it,  if you dont you must be mad, then these are the kind of guitars you oughta be on the lookout for! These airlines look like beautiful candy, humbug styled atomic surfboards designed with the best tonal flavours in mind. Delicious.

Just ask yourself  “What would Flash Gordon be playing?”.

I`d like to suggest that White and Co. are encroaching on Dylan`s hallowed territory with much of their quality lyrical composition – as well as divining riffs that instantaneously occupy the upper echelons of the rock riff cannon – for example the Seven Nation Army. Even when White puts the guitar down, he stills kicks out the greatest tunes and ideas – consider “My Doorbell”.

Today I`m going to stretch the art of guitar metaphor a little further and give everyone out there an insight into some visually shredded guitar art that combines fast colour kinetics, motion and explosive emotional intent.
