With full bellies and for some, a mild beer glow, we headed off to the AMI stadium eager with anticipation about the night ahead.

Luis brought the guacamole

Parking wasn’t a problem thanks to Dan’s Dad’s business being situated only two blocks away from the venue and the Rockstar Recipes crew efficiently joined the steady wave of concert goers as the South Island grunge collective ascended upon the old Lancaster grounds.

Approaching the gates, the atmosphere intensified and you could tell that underneath the notorious Christchurch conservative exteriors there were a heck of a lot of rock ‘n’ roll fans bursting with excitement.

Liam Finn opened up while we found our seats and his energetic, indie rock felt very appropriate and really set the whole tone for the evening. Within the first three songs Eddie Vedder appeared on stage and performed alongside Liam much to the delight of the congregation.

By the time we found the right stand and got settled in Ben Harper and Relentless 7 were just kicking off and the show really did kick into second gear.
Once again it didn’t take long for Eddie Vedder to arrive on stage and together they performed ‘Under Pressure’ by Queen/David Bowie.

The crowd responded really well to Ben but as the sunlight began to fade and Pearl Jam came on stage and erupted into their set the stadium really did come alive.
The night grew colder but the light drips and drabs of rain didn’t seem to affect the crowd’s enthusiasm.

Eddie was a real gentleman and charmed the pants off the critical New Zealand audience with some well placed, locally geared anecdotes and a genuine concern for mosh-pit safety.

Ed Vedder Rocked the Stage

A real crowd pleaser, Eddie announced it was Matt Cameron’s birthday and thirty thousand fans all sang Happy Birthday at the top of their lungs.

The show rolled out like clockwork and Pearl Jam performed exceptionally well, musicianship was absolutely in the pocket and the set list was a very sensitive mix of old and new tracks.

This was the final show of the tour and after a good couple of years on the road these seasoned pros showed no sign of fatigue or lack of passion.
Pearl Jam live in Christchurch 09 definitely goes down in RSR history as an awesome team field trip and an unforgettable experience for the whole crew.

The Community Manager will be responsible for growing Rockstar Recipes 3 communities – Jamorama, Rocket Piano and SongPond.

They will be responsible for managing communications to these groups on a daily basis, mediating disputes, retaining members and evangelizing for our brands.

As well as speaking on behalf of Rockstar Recipes you will be an advocate for our community members; monitoring and listening to conversations, engaging customers, responding to requests, conducting research and facilitating the relationship between customers and product developers.

It`s a subject of great interest both for its pseudo religious supranatural leanings and the degree to which this tradition has been perpetuated through different media to this day. The lone artist, soaked in liquour or absinthe, an artist struggling with, for or against the elements or humanity in defiance of tradition, change, oppression -a freedom fighter channelling the forces of good or evil through a talismanic or demoniacal engagement to the guitar. A vocal tradition hoodoo-esque, incantational, evangelical, proselytising, confessional, mean, base or sexual. What do you want your blues to be?

An incantatory, elemental, almost Amerindian element to the blues, a rhythmic, hypnotism and hoodoo-esque quality exists in all of John Lee`s blues and he`s a severely underrated icon perhaps to my mind. Wow, things are off the hook here at RockStar. Being hyper busy and hyper connected is pretty intense work sometimes. We like to relax around the cookie jar but some crazy deranged fool has put a bear trap in the jaw and filled the jar with piranhas. Bad news for the guitarists. Today amid the chaos we are putting a new coat of paint on the shopfront. Not literally and we`re not knocking the building down altogether either but we are concentrating on new ways to communicate with our customers. We have had so many mind blowing meetings about the future of guitar learning online I think my mind is actually broken. We cant wait to change the world and we`re determined to do it with your help. Mondo Cane!!
I havent got any time left in my life to write a blog post today, but I`m not letting it go.

Ask not what your blog can do for you but what you can do for your blog. So what`s it all about, Alife? Well our blog is hopefully becoming many things, to many people. Nefariously it could be seen as social engineering, or is it S.E.O., or is it transparency; it`s not a finite thing – it`s a voice, a personality, it is intimacy, it is permission. How`s the guitar playing going?

Hi bloggers, it’s Mark McKenzie here. Thought it was about time I added my two cents in (exchange rate isn’t good at the mo).
This is titled “Why I like Songpond” for lack of a better title. But since the reasons are many and your time is precious, I will give out only one at a time for you to comment on or disagree with.

Just over a year ago I sat with the masterminds of the monster that is Rockstar Recipes. Over a Flat white, they painted thier vision of a thing called “Songpond”  a place where anyone could learn the songs THEY wanted to play from the comfort of thier home. You see I have been teaching Guitar now to ordinary people for over 20 years. But whenever the student would leave the nest and fend for themselves, they struggled. I would later bump into them on the street and they would look all embarassed because they’ve not learnt any new songs since the last lesson.

I’ve found that the easiest and most rewarding way for a musician to progress is to they want to play!. Otherwise they get bored and disillutioned. I’ve had countless guitar players tell me they almost quit because they didnt like the songs they had to learn.

So why Songpond?

You choose the songs you wanna learn!
Nothing revs you up like the possibility of you being able to strum along to your favourite song NOW! And you have no motivation issues when it comes to finding time for practise when it is a joy. You learn your favourite song, you are getting the strum and feel of the tune. Maybe there is a chord you’ve never played or a lick you thought would be too advanced but actually it’s not that hard. Most of all it’s the FEELING you get when you can hear it. You are doing it. No gimmicks or cheating, for that moment you are in the band..on stage …and loving it. That my friends is why we play music. That is why we spend our precious time watching the lesson over and over until that little section is sounding like something. Let’s get you playing like your favourite players.

Just one bite at a time!

It’s so easy to get caught up with whether you have new strings on, am I in tune? What is the sound system like at the venue? Will there be a band rider? These are all too commonly asked and not backed up by intense passionate playing or song writing. I would go so far to say that Boss Christ was either the best or worst experience I have had in a long time, and if only to come to the realization that complacency will creep in to every single on of us at some point, and it does creep, it creeps slowly and infiltrates our beings. It’s at these times we need our very own Boss Christ to come and shake it up for us, remind us about what we really are doing!

Anyway… think about that….and next time you are playing or performing, if your audience aren’t on the edge of their seats for any reason… then I think you have failed.
