Introduction to Strumming

2 Week ‘Kick Start’ Beginner Guitar Course
– with Mark McKenzie Part 2

“The ‘Tick Tock’ Method: The Key To Perfect Timing”

Timing and rhythm are the most important aspects of live music performance – far more important than the notes you play. You won’t believe the number of times I’ve seen top guitarists play the wrong note and not a single person in the audience noticed. But, play out of time… and people notice immediately.

So, it’s critically important that you develop good timing and rhythm. My ‘Tick Tock’ method helps you to master this in one simple step.

Watch, practice, and enjoy.

Sincerely,
mark-sig

Seems simple enough. One must walk before they can run. As a brand newbie I’m willing to listen and practice in order to learn the right way. Thanks.

  2. Moses

I find it very simple to learn. Thañk you Màrk.

  6. Keith Dodds

Enjoying the course very much. Each lesson is bight size so it`s easily digested.
I did find at the beginning of lesson 2 that I was concentrating on not having the strings ring at the expense of the tick tock practice. I solved this by putting a folded handkerchief below the strings towards the nut which enabled me to concentrate entirely on the strumming practice. (Hope you approve)

    1. Mark McKenzie

Hi Keith. I like it. Innovative. How’s it working out for you now?

  7. Prashant Agravat

Mark, you are awesome. you are making things very simple and easy to understand, its really important to make foundation strong for every new Art we learn and you are making it, indeed. I feel like you are sitting right in front of me and teaching me guitar. Thank you Mark.

Excellent instruction. Oh, I wish I had this courses back in 1967.

  14. Brad Roberts

OK. I am a new member, but find that this website is not well organized. If I want to learn , for instance, ‘strumming’, it seems only available through a free email course that I cannot sign up for because I am already an enrolled member. I should be able to go right to a ‘strumming’ tutorial. Now , maybe I can somehow, but not by searching for it.

    1. Jon Coursey Post author

Hi Brad, the strumming lessons are built in to the beginner method courses found on the courses page. If you follow those courses from start to finish you’ll have covered all of the fundamental strumming patterns Mark teaches.

  16. aulia

Where to find the video ? I can’t find that .

    1. Jon Coursey Post author

Hi there, is it not showing in the page? It should be. What location are you viewing from? Some countries block vimeo which is where we host the videos.

  17. Errol

Your videos will not display.Faced merely with a “blank screen”.Can you please investigate as there is obviously a streaming problem! Thanks !

    1. Jon Coursey Post author

Hi Errol, is it all videos on the site giving you trouble, or just some? Where are you located in the world? It might be a local ban on vimeo (where we host the videos). Also, can you try turning the ‘HD’ setting off on the video player to see if that makes a difference?
