    Take the time to learn your scales. I’ve found knowing the minor scale and being able to link a few pentatonic scale shapes together, it’s helped me work out songs quicker (or at least play them quicker).

    Few examples:

    * Breaking the Law – E Minor Scale
    * Beat It – E Minor Scale
    * Can’t Stop – A Minor Full Scale

    Also knowing your major scale is handy too, I found a lot of children songs are written using the major scale in B and C.
