Easy Palm Muting

Advanced Guitar Picking Course
– with Mark McKenzie Part 5

“Easy Palm Muting”

Today we take a look at palm muting. It’s a great technique for adding color to your lead playing.

In the video I play a run as an example. Here’s the TAB for that:

(/) Slide Up (h) Hammer On
E|--------------------
B|--------------------
G|---------------5----
D|-----------5h7---7v-
A|-----3h5/7----------
E|-3h5----------------

Enjoy.

Sincerely,
mark-sig

I just now discovered this gold mine of a site! I’ve been playing the guitar for all of a month, now, and I’M IN LOVE. Never gonna stop! I’ve been just kind of winging palm muting with no theory or technique lesson on it, so this was awesome! Thanks. 🙂

Thank you Mark! Just waiting for this particular technique needed for Shadows pieces. I didn’t know that you could come up about a centimeter to find the ‘sweet spot’. I was trying to keep the palm at the point where the string ‘just’ left the bridge. Now this will be corrected. After some practice I’ll see if I can dispense with the mechanical damper with a felt strip that I made!
    Thanks and Regards, Erich.
