Okay, I’ll bite. I discovered this site back around 2016 I think, after buying a guitar. I was taking regular lessons, and seeking out as much knowledge as possible online. I watched most of the videos here.

Eventually, I grew frustrated. I wanted to find other people to study with (locally) but none existed. By the time I moved from Oregon…[Read more]

    • Hi Rob!!

I thought you were going to dust that thing off and get playing again? It’s staring at you because it wants you to pick it up and play it! LOL

I hope you are doing well! Great to hear from you!

Yeah they’re VERY slow to respond. If I had any admin privs, I’d try to help, but I don’t. All I can say is be patient and try not to get too frustrated. :/

  • Wow, I dunno what to suggest now. The traceroute looks good. It got past that initial * * * at hop 2, so it seems okay. BUT… I suppose that could be the problem, I’m just not sure. “Dammit Jim, I’m a programmer, not a network engineer!” :-p

It might be worth a call to your ISP and see if they can help determine the cause. This is assuming…[Read more]

  • Mirko, where are you located? If you’re at all tech savvy (computerwise), do a traceroute between you and and see if it shows any hiccups along the way.

FWIW, Mark very rarely comes around (he’s quite busy with an in-person teaching and touring schedule), but the guy who runs the site, Jon, is usually here from time to time.…[Read more]

  • Hey Mirko…

I hadn’t been here for a while but after I saw your reply, I had to come check it out. For what it’s worth, it’s working great for me right now. I have a video playing on Fingerstyle technique and it started up promptly and is playing without issues.

I know this site runs on WordPress, so it’s possible they were having some…[Read more]

  • I’m kinda OCD so I get bored easily… so focusing on one song doesn’t last very long. Instead, I’m working on several. It’s just a matter of finding motivation and making myself pick up the guitar and start playing. Once I do, I’m enjoying it. But it’s SO much work to pick it up, turn on the amp, and start. :-p

It’s ultimately up to you, but if you’re a beginner (like me), start with the Beginner Stage 1 course. I’m not sure why they order the courses the way they do.

  • I dove into this “hobby” or whatever you want to call it, over Memorial Day Weekend. It’s been an obsession since. Except that things kinda stalled a month or so ago. I’ve barely played any, and I quit my local guitar lessons because I felt like I wasn’t learning anything.

The problem, it seems, is I lack direction. I’d love to find a real…[Read more]

  • I have the same issue, but I have an excuse — my left wrist is broken! It has been since 2005 (or maybe it was 2004) after a snowmobile accident where I caught a rock under the snow and got thrown over the bars. My scaphoid bone has been split into two pieces.

For me, though, my wrist would start aching after five minutes of attempting barre…[Read more]

  • Thankfully I’m not talking about a medical condition. 🙂

I was in Guitar Center the other day with a couple of friends. I saw up on the top row of the wall of electric guitars this really pretty new Gibson Les Paul in Caribbean blue. It was busy so I didn’t ask to see it. I’ve been very happy with my PRS SE Custom 24.

Over the next few days,…[Read more]

  • Oh right, duh, I should have thought about that. Up top by the nut makes more sense. And yeah, my instructor used that same term — that it’s more forgiving.

My PRS is 4.445 cm at the nut (1.75 inches).

  • Hmmm…. when you measure the width of the neck across, at what point on the neck are you measuring? I’m curious to measure mine now. At the widest part, where it meets the body of the guitar, it’s 5.7 cm (2.25″).

Clearly, what works best for you is the slimmer neck. I’ve heard from many people that it’s super important to find a guitar that…[Read more]

Good idea, Jon… but I’m not sure if I’m good enough to do it justice. I did take it over to the local Guitar Center and had a couple guys jam on it and they thought it sounded nice. It does lack bass, but that’s expected given the 3″ speakers.

I suppose this gives me a reason to practice up a little bit and see if I can do anything…[Read more]
